SENATOR LARRY PRESSLER ' 64 B.A., Sioux Falls, SD



During his 22 years representing South Dakota in Washington DC, Senator Pressler served two terms in the House of Representatives from 1975-1979 and three terms in the U.S. Senate from 1979-1997. He served as chairman of the U.S. Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee & authored the Telecommunications Act of 1996. He also served on the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee and was chairman of the European and Asian Subcommittees.

Since 1997, Senator Pressler has pursued a business career largely centered on a telecommunications law practice, lobbying, teaching & serving on coperative boards. He has made numerous international business trips to india, Brazile, Europe, China & the Far East. Senator Pressler was the senior fellow at the University of California in Los Angeles in 2001 & has lectured at Harvard, Georgetwon, Creighton, Oxford University , Englad & other universities.

Senator Pressler is a native of Humboldt, SD, and graduated from The U in 1964 with a B.A. in political science. He was a Rhodes Scholar at Oxford University, England from 1964-1965 and received an M.P.A. and J.D. from Harvard University in 1971. He was a lieutenant in the U.S. Army from 1966-1968 & served two tours of duty in Vietnam, where he recived a bronze star. During his time at The U, Senator Pressler served as a student body president & was member of Phi Beta Kapaa. He & his wife Harrier, have a doughter, Lura & live in Washington D.C & Sioux falls, SD.
