Secretary Cheney announces former Senator Larry Pressler as a national vice-chair for The 'Veterans For Bush-Cheney' coaltion

AUSTIN, TX -- Secretary Dick Cheney today announced the 93 vice-chairs include former U.S. Senator Larry Pressler (R-S.D.) who served as an Army Lt. in Vietnam from 1966-68, and who spent 22 years in Congress.

93 national military veteran leaders and supporters voiced support for Republican Presidential nominees Governor George W. Bush and Secretary Richard Cheney on Wednesday.

The leaders included numerous officers who served under the Clinton-Gore Administration and retired military leaders, current and former members of Congress, past leaders of veterans' service organizations, Medal of Honor recipients and former POWÕs.

Cheney made the announcement during a meeting of Veterans for Bush-Cheney, the national grassroots coalition, while simultaneously launching California's Veterans for Bush-Cheney.

The 93 vice-chairs of the national coalition will help the Veterans for Bush-Cheney offices carry Governor Bush's message of the need to rebuild our military and prepare our armed forces for the future and the importance of restoring support for veterans and military retirees.

Former Congressman, Sonny G. V. Montgomery, author of the Montgomery G.I. Bill, and Gen. Charles Krulak, USMC (Ret.), former Commandant of the Marine Corps, are the national co-chairs of Veterans for Bush-Cheney.

"Although all members of the Veterans for Bush-Cheney Coalition are firm in their support for Governor Bush, they are equally firm in their belief in the importance of the right to vote. Active duty, Reserves, National Guard, veterans, and military retirees alike have all served this nation to guarantee that right. The Veterans for Bush-Cheney Coalition now urges all Americans to exercise that right," said General Krulak, former member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff under Clinton, 1995-1999.

A Bush-Cheney administration will support Senate Armed Services Committee Chairman John Warner's efforts to provide health care coverage to military retirees age 65 and older, and their eligible family members, under the military health care program used by military personnel and their families.
